Hydro One Community Open House - Underground Cable Replacement Near The Esplanade and Terauly (Bay St) Transformer Stations

Hydro One must replace critical underground transmission cables that were installed in the 1950s and are approaching the end of their life. These transmission cables serve Toronto's downtown core and Toronto Hydro customers. The replacement will help continue to provide power to residents and the city's most crucial institutions, including TTC, major banks, businesses, hospitals and universities.

In May 2018, Hydro One project team initiated a Class Environmental Assessment (EA) to evaluate four alternative routes and two construction methods. Since then they have reached out to and met with numerous resident associations, BIAs, members of the community and other stakeholder groups to collect feedback and input.

Hydro One is holding two Community Open Houses to provide an update of the study and to present the proposed underground tunnel route, preferred location for shafts and details for the next steps.
