Rees Street closure for Hydro transformer delivery - Aug 20-22
Rees Street will be closed between Lake Shore Boulevard and Bremner Boulevard beginning this Saturday morning, August 20, at 12:01 a.m. The closure may continue until Monday night, August 22, at 11:59 p.m.
Toronto Hydro will be delivering transformers to the new Copeland Transformer Station beside the Roundhouse. This requires cranes to be erected on the roadway of Rees Street. Pedestrian access will be maintained on the west sidewalk.
The delivery will also involve a partial rolling closure of Lake Shore Boulevard between Cherry Street and Rees Street between about 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Sunday, August 21. During delivery, the transformers will occupy two lanes of Lake Shore Boulevard. They will have a police escort to ensure safety.
The Copeland Transformer Station is a brand new $195 million infrastructure project that will relieve electricity capacity constraints in downtown Toronto and improve the overall reliability of the grid. It is vitally important to make these kinds of investments in both hard and soft infrastructure in order to ensure our rapidly-growing neighbourhoods are liveable. I am working to deliver new parkland and community services, including a new YMCA facility. The City of Toronto is also in the middle of a comprehensive review of what additional investments are needed if we are to keep up with downtown growth, which you can learn more about and participate in at www.toronto.ca/tocore.
