Renewing the Alexandra Park Revitalization Phase 2 Plan
In 2013, Toronto City Council approved a revitalization plan for the Alexandra Park and Atkinson Housing Co-op. The Plan includes the replacement or refurbishment of the existing residences, the addition of new market residential, the removal of all stacked townhouses and introduction of back-to-back townhouses, a new public park, a new street network, and a new location for the community centre.
With a commitment to access and equity, local economic development, and community-building at the heart of the project, Phase 1b is now under construction. Our focus has now turned to reviewing Phase 2 of the community-led project, which in addition to continued townhome and apartment replacement and refurbishment, will include: zero displacement of residents, a brand new 1,100 square metre (minimum) community centre, new parks and basketball courts, local social enterprise, bike sharing stations, and more.
An application with the proposed changes to Phase 2 of the plan has now been submitted to the City. Proposed changes include the reconstruction of the deteriorating 73-75 Augusta Square building, changes to the height and scale of some of the new buildings, new affordable housing units (in addition to all those being replaced), the relocation of the new community centre to a different part of the site, and a larger park space. City Planning is hosting a public consultation on the proposed changes:
Date: Tuesday, April 10, 2018
Time: 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm (Presentation at 7:15 pm)
Place: Alexandra Park Community Centre – 105 Grange Court
We are also working hard to implement our Council approved plan to expand both affordable housing and affordable home ownership in the community, as well as to find opportunities to augment the plan as we move forward. The plan commits funding for affordable home ownership, sets out a plan to expand the footprint of the Atkinson Housing Co-operative, and allocates funding for new units of affordable housing in Phase 2 of the Revitalization.
