Ten former Ministers of Health from all three political parties that have held government in Ontario release joint Open Letter calling on the Province to reverse cuts to Public Health
Dennis R. Timbrell, former Minister of Health (1977-1982) during the Bill Davis PC Government, 6 former Ministers from the David Peterson, Dalton McGuinty, and Kathleen Wynne Liberal Governments, and 3 Ministers from the Bob Rae NDP Government are calling on the Province to reverse the cuts to public health in an open letter to Minister of Health, Hon. Christine Elliott, released on Thursday.
"Traditionally, Ministers of Health have avoided commenting on the policies of their successors," the letter reads. "Health has been seen as a non-partisan issue – something we all support. This attack on public health has prompted us to break our silence."
Former Ministers of Health from all three political parties that have held government in Ontario have signed onto the letter, including former Ministers Dennis R. Timbrell, David Caplan, Elinor Caplan, Evelyn Gigantes, Ruth Grier, Dr. Eric Hoskins, Dr. Helena Jaczek, The Honourable Sen. Frances Lankin, Deb Matthews, and George Smitherman.
"This cutting of public health services cannot go forward. It puts the prosperity of our communities and of our entire Province at risk. Funding must be restored."
